PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The qualifying learner will be able to operate a skid steer loader by understanding the functions of starting, shutting down and operating procedures for the machine. Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of Construction Plant operators.
USE OF A SKID STEER LOADER
A Bobcat is a very small machine used in the loading and offloading activities, you may call it a front end loader if you may. Its affordability and versatility has seen it being used in a number of places such as in the road constructions, building constructions, small scale mining operations. Many companies nowadays own a bobcat.
SKILLS YOU NEED TO KNOW AFTER THE TRAINING
• Demonstrating knowledge of the functions of a skid steer loader.
• Planning for work activities and prepare work area.
• Starting and shutting down skid steer loader.
• Operating skid steer loader.
• Transporting skid steer loader to and from site.
